The Diamond School of Yoga is a Cairns based yoga school, run by me, Helen Rivett. Yoga is a wonderful way to reconnect with your true self in all its facets—like the diamond. My aim is to create classes that are personal, and allow for individual differences in students. I also teach private lessons.
If you wish to find out more about the benefits of yoga, you are most welcome to contact me for a chat.
About the teacher—Helen Rivett (dip iyta)
I received my yoga teaching qualification from the International Yoga Teachers’ Association (IYTA) in 1996 and have been teaching various classes ever since. The IYTA teacher training is internationally recognised and provides a good grounding and exposure to all aspects of yoga from asana work to philosophy and meditation; but of course the yoga understanding is an ongoing, gradual process of self discovery and the whole of life is your teacher. Yoga is life!
I have been very influenced by Sri Swami Kamala-Mata Aranya. She was the head of the Aranya Order, one of the oldest world yoga orders. Swami was steeped in a Tibetan yoga tradition and began her training at age 4. She strongly emphasised a compassionate and simple approach to living and encouraged each student to find their own individual yogic path.
She reminded us to be honest with ourselves, patient in finding our way, and accepting of our selves. Swami initiated me into the order with the name Haimanananda meaning Golden Spiritual Bliss. Her teachings continue to provide a large part of the foundation of my yoga teaching and life.
I also qualified as an Occupational Therapist from the Queensland University in 1978 and have worked in this field intermittently in the areas of Mental Health, Rehabilitation, and Aged Care. This experience has brought me into contact with people from all walks of life when they were facing difficult situations. Hopefully,it makes me more aware when teaching the yoga. Now I am solely working at my yoga. I hope to gradually expand my Yoga teaching commitment through classes and individual work. I prefer smaller classes of up to 12 people.
I hope that people in my classes experience a sense of freedom and joy, and a clearer, authentic sense of their own self as we work to harmonise body, mind, & spirit (however you interpret that spirit).
